For the past 51 weeks, Battle Video Archives poster and Don’t Flop battler Suus has been compiling a list of the week’s most buzzed-about rap battles and taking a community poll to figure out which battle RapMusic thought was worth registering over a dozen different screen names on a message board for. The four winners of each month are pitted against each other for battle of the month and those twelve winners will go at it to determined which rap battle was truly miles above its peers in terms of quality, memorability, and popularity. For the week of December 9th, posters reaffirmed that they like their battles to have more hot lines than a Lohan family Christmas and chose Smack/URL’s B-Magic vs Chilla Jones as the tasty Irish nog of battle rap.
For the week of December 16h, the absence of big marquee battles has level the field a bit, giving the poll over to a hearty selection of sleeper battles. Ahead of the pack by a scant 9 votes is the latest from URL’s “Proving Grounds” minor leagues, Lotta Zay vs Syahboy. Coming in second to Smack’s monochrome one-off is one of the league’s rare female battles, Jaz the Rapper vs QB.
