Every art form needs its villains and anti-heroes. Deadpool, Howard Stern, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Rasputin, Christopher Hitchens, Kanye West – all divisive figures who inspire as much loathing as they do adoration in spite of and, often, because of the qualities that split opinion so.
In the world of battle rap, Loe Pesci is that figure. The endlessly entertaining baiting and antagonism evident in his performances since debuting in 2009 in King of the Dot and Grindtime are absent from his new solo release Good X 2, but the OG Hindu Kush rapper carries over the same lyrical concern for the fly and the complex to the LP that he brings to each of those sparring matches, the very same qualities as an MC that has earned him both adulation and begrudging respect.
Pesci takes after hip-hop’s tradition of being obsessed with everything razor sharp, constantly coining terms and catch phrases, the sharpest clothes, dopest sounds, and references sometimes universal and sometimes almost hilariously esoteric.

Montrealien boom-bap is the cause, with Good X 2 having a warmer, more traditionalist bent than OG Hindu Kush’s In 3-D and being decidedly more introspective and topical than those new to Pesci’s music but familiar with his YouTube antics would expect. Familiar dusty drums and otherworldly-feeling soul samples are on deck, but so is a dedication to rapping his ass off that separates the wheat from the chaff in the crowded world on undie rap.
