Track Review: Matchstik – ‘Surnia’s Song

Those who are vying for the heart of that special lady may be able to relate to Kentucky-born, Alabama-raised emcee Matchstik, whose witty rhymes and clever choruses are on display in California dreamin’ cut Surina’s Song. Producer Japiro samples a quick break off of Earth, Wind & Fire’s As One as the emcee (along with guest singer Foreword) offers a plea to his lady love. Found on his current release, The Concept, Surina’s Song could very well do what the chorus says and take Matchstik “to the top.” After a youth filled with ups and downs, including dealing drugs as a teenager and nearly dying in a car accident, the Los Angeles transplant is hoping his buzzworthy talents will help reel in listeners eager to hear his story.  We’re all ears.
