Eminem Fan Commits Suicide

A 17-year old Eminem fan committed suicide by throwing himself under a train. David Hurcombe had attached lyrics from one of the rapper’s songs to his suicide note.
This was found in a waste paper bin in his bedroom, after he jumped in front of the train near his home in Teignmouth, Devon. Quoting lyrics from Eminem’s song “Rock Bottom,” about being broke and depressed, the note read: “’Cause when you die you know we are all going the same way. It’s cool to be the player but it sucks to be the fan, ‘cos all yo need is bucks to be the man.” Underneath these lines Hurcombe wrote “Wouldn’t it be weird to fall to the bottom of a bottomless pit? Anyway, got to go, miss my train. See y’all in hell.”

An investigation into the teenager’s death on Tuesday Jan. 23 told that, shortly before he killed himself, friends had teased Hurcombe after a gay guest at a party had revealed that he fancied him. Hurcombe’s friend Michael Carroll told the inquest “David kept asking if we thought he was gay. We told him none of us did. But he was stressed because he thought he was.”
Coroner Hamish Turner told the hearing in Teignmouth that he thought Eminem’s song ‘Rock Bottom’ was “pretty miserable stuff,” adding, “It’s difficult to say what affect it had on David. He appears to have been very worried about an allegation which should not affect people either way.”
A verdict of suicide was recorded at the inquest.
